Work Ability is a project designed to increase employment for people with significant disabilities in Utah. The project is a partnership among individuals with disabilities, employers and a coalition of public agencies, including the Utah Department of Health, Utah State Office of Rehabilitation, Utah Department of Workforce Services, Utah Department of Human Services, and the Social Security Administration.
Work Ability is part of a national effort to assist people with disabilities who want to work into the workforce. The U.S. Congress passed the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act in 1999. This law created policy changes across several federal agencies and offered incentives to states to improve work incentives and supports for people with disabilities and employers.
The Utah Work Incentive Initiative (UWIN) spearheads the Work Ability campaign with a Medicaid Infrastructure Grant from the federal Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). UWIN is administered by the Utah Department of Health, Division of Health Care Financing.
