Utah Health Care Resources

There are a many medical assistance programs for people with disabilities in Utah. Brief summaries of some of the programs have been created and are designed to give a broad overview of the programs and should not be used to determine eligibility.

Utah Medicaid Information

The Utah Medicaid Program helps families and individuals pay for medical bills.

Medicaid Work Incentive (MWI)

Medicaid Work Incentive was designed for people with disabilities who are working, but because of their income and/or assets do not qualify for a "free" Medicaid card. The MWI gives a person the option to pay a premium, based on their countable income, to obtain health care. The intent of MWI is to encourage people with disabilities to return to work or to increase their earnings.

Employment Personal Assistance Services (EPAS)

The Employment Personal Assistance Services was started in July 2001 through Utah's Medicaid State Plan under the Personal Care State Plan option. This Service provides personal care assistance to people with disabilities to support them in maintaining.

Children Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

CHIP is Utah's Children's Health Insurance Program, a federally funded state health insurance program for children of working families.

Children who may possibly qualify for CHIP are:

  • Under age 19
  • Not currently covered by health insurance
  • US citizens or legal residents; and
  • Meet income guidelines

Utah's Premium Partnership (UPP)

Utah's Premium Partnership for Health Insurance (UPP) helps make health insurance more affordable for working individuals and families who do not currently have health insurance. UPP is for adults and children who do not currently have health insurance UPP will help you pay your monthly premiums when you enroll in your employer's health insurance plan.

You or your dependents may qualify for UPP based on family size, income, and if your employer's health insurance plan meets basic guidelines. If you or your dependents qualify, UPP will reimburse you up to $150 per adult and up to $100 per child in the family—every month!

Primary Care Network (PCN)

The Primary Care Network (PCN) is health plan offered by the Utah Department of Health. It covers services administered by a primary care provider.

Applications are only accepted during open enrollment periods, which are held when resources are available to cover more people. The federal government requires PCN to enroll more parents than people without children. Because of this, PCN may schedule separate enrollment times for parents and those without children. To qualify as a parent, you must have children age 18 or younger living at home with you.

Medicare

Medicare is a health insurance program under Social Security for people age 65 or older and some people under age 65 who have disabilities. It may also be for people of any age who have permanent kidney failure. It provides basic health care coverage and may include prescription drug coverage.
